New OLED and M6 MacBook Pro in late 2026: what we know and how to protect your MacBook

Apple has barely tried to hide it: on 19 October, the company's marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted that he "can't wait" to unveil something "pro" the following week. Everything points to new MacBook Pro models before the end of 2026, including the first MacBook with a touch-enabled OLED display. Here's what we know so far (as of 25 October), what's still rumour and, above all, how to protect your MacBook – the new one or the one you already own – without picking the wrong case.

This article draws on reports from Bloomberg (Mark Gurman), MacRumors and Macworld. Apple hasn't officially announced anything yet: we'll update it as soon as details are confirmed.

1. Dates: an unveiling at the end of October, on sale in November

According to MacRumors, Apple has invited the press to a hands-on briefing in Los Angeles on Wednesday 28 October. Rather than a traditional keynote event, it would be a session where journalists could try out the new Macs and the iPad mini. Mark Gurman also reports that the machines would reach stores on Friday 6 November: Apple Stores are scheduled to rearrange their fixtures overnight from 5 to 6 November, which usually comes before a launch.

2. The models we're expecting

14" MacBook Pro with M6 chip

This would be the entry-level Pro model and would debut the M6 chip, Apple's first made by TSMC on a 2-nanometre process. What matters for you: it would keep the current design and chassis, with the same non-touch mini-LED display. In other words, on the outside it would look practically identical to today's 14" MacBook Pro.

14" and 16" MacBook Pro with touch OLED display

This is the headline change. Gurman and Macworld agree on the following:

  • A touch-enabled OLED display, a first for a Mac.
  • 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.
  • M5 Pro and M5 Max chips (there would be no M6 Pro or M6 Max: Apple would jump straight to the M7 Pro and Max in 2027).
  • A thinner and "significantly lighter" chassis, with the internal components rearranged.
  • Possibly a Dynamic Island-style cutout for the camera, as on the iPhone (unconfirmed).
  • They would sit above the current MacBook Pro models in the line-up, which would remain on sale.

What would come next

According to Bloomberg's July report, the MacBook Air with M6 chip (13" and 15") would arrive in early 2027 with a design very similar to the current one, and an OLED MacBook Air wouldn't appear until 2028. A version of the MacBook Neo (model A3404, on sale since March 2026) with an A19 Pro chip is being tested, but it isn't expected any time soon. Alongside the MacBook Pro, an M6 iMac and an OLED iPad mini are also expected.

3. What does this mean for your MacBook case and laptop sleeve?

This is the key point, and it helps to separate two types of protection:

  • Hard-shell case: made for one specific model, identified by its Axxxx number. A change to the chassis, even by a couple of millimetres, means a case will no longer fit.
  • Padded sleeve: chosen by outer dimensions. If the laptop fits inside, it works, whatever its model number.

Applied to the new models:

  • 14" MacBook Pro M6: if Apple keeps the chassis, as expected, cases for the current 14" MacBook Pro should fit. As soon as Apple publishes the model number, we'll check it and add it to the selector on each case.
  • OLED MacBook Pro: as it's a new design, current cases won't fit it. Until dedicated cases exist, a sleeve is the simplest way to protect it from day one. Since it will be thinner, it should fit in a sleeve designed for 14" or 16", but always compare the official dimensions with the sleeve's inner measurements.
  • If you're not upgrading your MacBook: it's a good time to replace the case or keyboard cover on the one you already have. A well-kept MacBook also holds its value better if you ever decide to sell it and make the switch.

4. Sleeves that work for the new MacBook and your current one

These sleeves don't depend on the model number, so they'll work for you today and on the day you get a new laptop.

Three sizes (33, 35.5 and 37.3 cm) and four layers of padding. The 37.3 cm size takes laptops up to 35.7 × 24.9 cm, such as the current 16" MacBook Pro or the 15" MacBook Air.

You'll find more designs in the same three sizes in our laptop sleeves collection. If you're unsure about the size, check our laptop sleeve size guide.

5. If you're keeping your current MacBook

For the MacBook Air and Pro models already out there, a case plus a keyboard cover is still the most practical combination. Choose the variant by the model number printed on the bottom of your MacBook.

Frequently asked questions

When are the new MacBook Pro models coming out?

According to published reports, Apple would unveil them on 28 October 2026 and they would go on sale from 6 November. Apple has not confirmed this yet.

Will my 14" MacBook Pro case fit the new M6 model?

If Apple keeps the current chassis, as expected, it should fit. Check the model number when it goes on sale; we'll add it to our case variants as soon as it's confirmed.

Are there cases for the OLED MacBook Pro yet?

Not yet: nobody can make a reliable case without the final dimensions. In the meantime, a padded sleeve in the right size protects the laptop without depending on the model number.

Do the VoltSleeve and ElectraSleeve work with laptops that aren't MacBooks?

Yes. The VoltSleeve is for 13" and 14" laptops, and the ElectraSleeve for 12" to 14" laptops and tablets, from any brand.

Is it worth waiting or buying now?

If your current MacBook works well and you don't need a touchscreen or OLED, there's no rush: the current models will remain on sale. If OLED appeals to you, it's worth waiting to see the official price and dimensions before deciding.
